What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the website remember your preferences and keep you signed in.

Cookies We Use

Markmate uses essential cookies only. We do not use any advertising, marketing, or cross-site tracking cookies. For privacy-friendly analytics we use Umami, which is cookieless — see the Analytics section below.

Essential Cookies

Cookie Name Purpose Duration
markmate_session Keeps you signed in and maintains your session 120 minutes
XSRF-TOKEN Protects against cross-site request forgery attacks Session
remember_web_* Keeps you signed in when "Remember me" is selected at login Persistent

Analytics (Umami)

We use Umami, a privacy-focused, open-source analytics service, to understand how visitors find and use Markmate. Umami does not set cookies, does not use device fingerprinting, and does not collect any personally identifiable information.

Umami collects only aggregate, anonymised metrics such as the page visited, the referring website, the browser and operating system, the country, and the screen size. Individual visitors cannot be identified or tracked across sessions or across other websites.

Why We Don't Need Consent

Under the ePrivacy Directive and GDPR, cookies that are "strictly necessary" for the service you have requested do not require consent. Our cookies fall into this category as they are essential for:

  • Keeping you logged in
  • Protecting your account from security threats

Our analytics provider, Umami, does not store or access information on your device and does not process personal data, so it does not require consent under PECR or GDPR.

Managing Cookies

You can control cookies through your browser settings. However, disabling essential cookies will prevent you from using Markmate as you won't be able to stay logged in.
